Applications are now available for Summer Camp 2009 at Frost Valley YMCA, in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of NY.
The first program of its kind in the US in 1975, the Ruth Gottscho Dialysis and Children’s Kidney Program at Frost Valley YMCA continues to be unique in mainstreaming children with kidney disease (with chronic disease, on hemo or peritoneal dialysis, or post-transplant) into cabins and activities with other children. Campers participate fully in traditional residential camp activities during a 12-day stay, while receiving medical supervision, including dialysis, from the expert pediatric nephrology staff of the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Campers are able to meet other children with medical problems similar to their own and are also able to be "teachers" to their counselors and cabin mates. They learn new skills, improve techniques for their own medical management, gain coping skills, and most importantly, have fun!
Scholarships and assistance with transportation are available. Spaces are limited! For more information, please visit www.frostvalley.org/kidney, or contact Maya Doyle, camp coordinator, at mdoyle@montefiore.org or 718-655-1120x229
