Elva Smith Named to Cystinosis Research Network Board of Directors
The Cystinosis Research Network is pleased to announce that Elva Smith has been named to the CRN Board of Directors. Elva was a CRN Committee Member working on the Research Committee. She will continue her work on the Research Committee as a Board member.
Elva is a 71 year old grandma and a native of Georgia She was born in Savannah and raised in Atlanta. She is an ASCP registered medical technologist, and has worked, off and on, for over 50 years in various clinical laboratory settings. Her last employment was with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
She is retired and a widow with 4 children, and 5 grandchildren. Her grandson, Mitchell Smith, was diagnosed with cystinosis in November 2004 at 17 months and is now just over 3 years old. Elva is thankful that Mitchell has responded well to his medications and is a typical little boy full of energy and mischief. He lives in Lawrenceville, GA with his 4 year old sister Rachel and parents, Eric and Lorna Smith.
